Crotamiton
Antipruritic
Indications And Clinical Uses: To relieve itching in most types of dermatosis, notably: atopic dermatitis, chickenpox, contact dermatitis, creeping eruption, dermatitis herpetiformis, dermatitis medicamentosa, dermatophytosis, eczema, insect bites, intertrigo, lichen planus, neurodermatitis, neurotic excoriation, pityriasis rosea, poison ivy dermatitis, pruritus ani, scroti and vulvae, psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, senile pruritus, sunburn, urticaria, varicose eczema.
Contra-Indications: Acutely inflamed skin or raw, weeping areas. Hypersensitivity to crotamiton.
Precautions: For external use only. Crotamiton should not be allowed to come into contact with the eyes. Keep out of reach of children.
Pregnancy: There is no experience to judge the safety of crotamiton in human pregnancy, especially in the first 3 months.
Lactation: It is not known whether crotamiton passes into the breastmilk when the preparation is applied topically. Nursing mothers should avoid applying crotamiton in the area of the nipples.
Adverse Reactions: Allergic sensitivity or primary irritation reactions may occur in some patients. In such instances, treatment should be discontinued.
Symptoms And Treatment Of Overdose: Symptoms and Treatment: In cases of acute intoxication by accidental ingestion, nausea, vomiting and irritation of the buccal, esophagal and gastric mucosa have been reported.
Moreover risk of methemoglobinemia exists in case of accidental ingestion as well as in case of excessive cutaneous absorption.
Dosage: Local application as frequently as required, usually 2 to 3 times daily. Note: The cream should be massaged into skin until dry.
Availability And Storage: Each tube contains: crotamiton USP 10%. Nonmedicinal ingredients: beeswax, fragrance, glycerin, glyceryl monostearate, lanolin, methylparaben, oxyquinoline sulfate, paraffin, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate and propylparaben. Alcohol- and bisulfite-free. Tubes of 20 and 50 g. Protect from heat and light.
