Indications And Clinical Uses:

Sodium chloride injection USP can be used as an isotonic vehicle for many parenteral drugs. Injections may also be administered s.c. to infants in conjunction with hyaluronidase, which facilitates the absorption of the fluid.

Precautions:

Cardiovascular disease; patients receiving corticosteroids, corticotropin or drugs that may give rise to sodium retention.

Adverse Reactions:

Excessive amounts by any route may cause hypokalemia and acidosis.

Excessive amounts by the parenteral route may precipitate congestive heart failure and acute pulmonary edema, especially in patients with cardiovascular disease.

Dosage And Administration:

Parenterally, 0.45 to 0.9% solution, amount and concentration varying with circumstances.

Availability & Storage:

Each mL contains: sodium chloride 9 mg in single use glass vials or plastic ampuls (Polyamp Duofit) (suitable for Luer fit and Luer lock syringes) of 10 mL. Preservative-free. The solution has an osmolarity of approximately 0.31 mOsm/mL (calc.). Do not use if solution is cloudy or contains a precipitate. Discard unused portion. Store at room temperature (15 to 30°C).
