Indications And Clinical Uses: Preparation of the colon for radiology (prior to barium enemas or i.v. pyelograms) surgery and many proctological procedures.

Precautions: Do not use any of these preparations when undiagnosed abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting are present. Frequent or prolonged use of these preparations may result in dependence on laxatives. Do not administer Royvac to persons who cannot swallow without chewing. Rectal bleeding or failure to respond may indicate a serious condition. Consult physician.

Adverse Reactions: If full schedule of fluid intake is not followed, patient may become weak or dizzy due to dehydration.

Dosage And Administration: Your physician is preparing you for a medical procedure that requires thorough cleansing of the intestinal tract.

Be sure to follow each step and complete all instructions or the entire procedure may have to be repeated. Important: A high fluid intake is essential to the success of this regimen. You must drink a large glass (225 mL) of fluid at specified times. Drink only black coffee, plain tea, strained fruit juice, soft drinks or water at the times indicated. No milk or cream. Water is the preferred liquid to ensure success of this procedure.

Be sure to drink all the fluids specified.

On the Day Before the Examination: 12 Noon: Liquid lunch: Clear soup, plain gelatin, 225 mL of fluid. (No milk products.)

12:30 p.m. (or 1/2 hour after lunch): Drink entire contents of oral solution (#1 in your kit) over ice. A strong bowel cleansing action should be expected 3 to 6 hours after drinking this preparation.

1:00 p.m.: 225 mL of fluid.

3:00 p.m.: Take all 3 tablets (#2 in your kit) with a large glass of water Do not crush or chew tablets. Swallow tablets whole, one at a time.

4:00 p.m.: 225 mL of fluid.

5:00 p.m.: Liquid dinner: Clear soup, plain gelatin, 225 mL of fluid. (No milk products.)

6:00 p.m.: 225 mL of fluid.

9:00 p.m.: 225 mL of fluid.

10:00 p.m.: Remove foil wrapping from suppository (#3 in your kit). Insert suppository into rectum as far as possible. Wait at least 10 to 15 minutes before evacuating even if the urge is strong.

Bedtime: 225 mL of fluid. Drink additional quantities of the recommended fluids if up during the night.

On the Day of the Examination: No foods until after the examination is completed. One glass of fluid is permitted prior to the examination.

There are alternate time schedules for patients unable to start at noon the day before the examination. Available from manufacturer upon request.

Availability And Storage: Each Royvac kit contains: Solution: Each bottle contains: magnesium citrate 17.46 g. Bottles of 296 mL. Suppository (1): Each suppository contains: bisacodyl 10 mg. Tablets (3): Each tablet contains: bisacodyl 5 mg.

Store at 15 to 30°C.
