Indications And Clinical Uses: A high-calorie liquid preparation providing complete, balanced nutrition. Energy density is 1 490 kJ (355 kcal)/Tetra Pak and provides a concentrated source of calories in a limited volume for patients with high protein requirements. When utilized to provide total nutrition, Resource Plus can deliver high energy intakes required by hypermetabolic patients who are nutritionally depleted, and are unable to tolerate large fluid volume intake. As a dietary supplement, Resource Plus can supply extra energy and protein for those patients unable or unwilling to consume adequate nutrition (i.e. geriatric and cancer patients).
Precautions: Not for parenteral use. Shake Tetra Pak of liquid well before opening.
Dosage And Administration: Oral: As a supplement with or between meals: 1 to 3 Tetra Paks daily, 1 490 to 4 470 kJ (355 to 1 065 kcal). Does not require dilution with water. When used as the sole daily feeding, should be administered to meet individual requirements. 1 410 mL, 6 Tetra Paks meet or surpass 100% of the Canadian RNI (adult males, 25 to 49) for protein and essential vitamins and minerals.
Tube Feeding: Follow a physician’s or dietitian’s directions. When initiating feeding, the flow rate, volume and dilution are dependent on patient condition and tolerance. Care should be taken to avoid contamination of this product during preparation and administration. Additional fluid requirements should be met by giving water orally with or after feedings, or when flushing the tube.
Availability And Storage: Each 235 mL ready-to-use brik contains: ¹-D water, corn syrup solids, sodium and calcium caseinates, corn oil, sugar, maltodextrin, soy protein isolate, potassium citrate, soy lecithin, sodium citrate, calcium phosphate tribasic, natural and artificial flavor, magnesium chloride, potassium chloride, choline chloride, ascorbic acid, potassium hydroxide, carrageenan, zinc sulfate, alpha tocopheryl acetate, ferrous sulfate, niacinamide, D-calcium pantothenate, copper gluconate, manganese sulfate, thiamine hydrochloride, pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin, vitamin A palmitate, maltol, folic acid, biotin, potassium iodide, vitamin K1, cyanocobalamin and vitamin D3.
Note: Ingredient content may differ slightly between chocolate, strawberry and vanilla flavors. Consult the product labeling for exact composition.
Energy Distribution: protein 15%, fat 32%, carbohydrates 53%; 634 kJ (150 kcal)/100 mL.
Resource Plus has a calorie to nitrogen ratio of 170:1, which is suggested as reasonable for effective protein utilization. Gluten- and lactose-free.
Aseptic Tetra Brik Paks of 235 mL (vanilla, strawberry, chocolate), cases of 27.
Store unopened at room temperature; avoid freezing; protect from heat. Once opened, store covered in refrigerator and use within 24 hours. Chilling enhances flavor.
