Gastroesophageal Reflux Therapy

Action And Clinical Pharmacology: Rafton forms a protective neutralizing foam barrier in the stomach that effectively stops the upward flow of stomach acids into the esophagus providing fast relief of heartburn.

Indications And Clinical Uses: For the effective relief of day or night-time heartburn or for discomfort of the esophagus due to upward flow of stomach acids.

Precautions: Each 5 mL of liquid contains approximately 30 mg of sodium and each tablet contains approximately 22 mg of sodium which should be noted for patients on severely restricted diets.

The cations of magnesium and aluminum interfere with the absorption of tetracycline, iron and phosphate. In addition, oral magnesium may accumulate in the plasma of patients with impaired renal function. Patients suffering from renal failure or those taking any form of tetracycline should not use Rafton.

Adverse Reactions: Nausea, vomiting, eructation, flatulence.

Symptoms And Treatment Of Overdose: Symptoms and Treatment: Should overdose occur, gastric distention may result and it is best treated conservatively. tag_DosageDosage

Dosage: Adults: 10 to 20 mL of liquid or 2 to 4 tablets 1 to 4 times daily chewed thoroughly, after meals and upon retiring. Administration may be followed by a half glass of water. Recommended dose, not more than 16 tablets or 80 mL/day. Do not swallow tablets whole.

Availability And Storage: Liquid: Each 5 mL of tan-colored, fruit-flavored suspension contains: sodium alginate 250 mg and aluminum hydroxide 100 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: calcium carbonate precipitated, cetylpyridinium chloride, guarana flavor, purified water, silicon dioxide, sodium (30 mg), sodium bicarbonate, sodium cyclamate (sweetener), methylparaben, propylparaben, and xanthan gum. Alcohol-, gluten-, lactose, sucrose- and tartrazine-free. Bottles of 340 mL.

Tablets: Each round, fruit-flavored tablet, imprinted with “Rafton” on both sides, contains: alginic acid 200 mg and aluminum hydroxide 80 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: calcium stearate, magnesium trisilicate, guarana flavor, sodium (22 mg), sodium bicarbonate, sucrose (1.2 g), and sucrose pregranulated. Gluten-, lactose-, starch- and tartrazine-free. Bottles of 40 and 100.
