Psoriasis Treatment

Action And Clinical Pharmacology: Micanol cream provides the action of anthralin in a pharmaceutically elegant base formulated to minimize staining and irritation. With successful treatment, scales will be removed and the lesions will flatten. The lesions will take time to blanch after flattening has occurred.

Indications And Clinical Uses: For the treatment of psoriasis.

Contra-Indications: Do not use on areas of skin where inflammation is present. Use only on quiescent or chronic patches and not in acute eruptions.

Manufacturers’ Warnings In Clinical States: For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes or genitals. In case of contact, rinse with water. Discontinue use if condition worsens. Do not ingest this product since it is a cathartic. Do not use on the face or areas of blistered, raw or oozing skin and avoid contact with unaffected areas of skin. If irritation, dryness or redness is noted on adjacent normal skin, reduce frequency of application. If any reaction indicating sensitivity is observed, discontinue use.

When washing, avoid using hot water and soaps as this may cause increased staining. Temporary discoloration of hair may occur in persons with white or grey hair.

May stain skin, hair, fingernails, clothing, bed linen, basin or bathtub. If staining occurs, it will wear off in several weeks.

Wash hands thoroughly after using.

Precautions: To be used only on the advice of a physician. Test area the size of a quarter 24 hours before use. If no irritation occurs, continue use. For adult use only.

Children: Not for use in children except on the advice of a physician.

Dosage And Administration: Apply to affected area once daily. Leave on affected area between 10 and 30 minutes, as directed by a physician, and wash off with cool water (no soap).

Scalp Use: Wash hair with shampoo, rinse with water and apply cream while hair is still damp. Rub the cream well into psoriatic lesions. Leave on for 10 to 30 minutes, as directed by a physician, then rinse hair and scalp thoroughly with cool water to remove any surplus cream. Finally, shampoo the hair.

Availability And Storage: Each g of aqueous base cream contains: anthralin USP 1% or 3% w/w. Nonmedicinal ingredients: citric acid, glyceryl monolaurate, glyceryl monomyristate, purified water and sodium hydroxide. Tubes of 50 g. Store at 15 to 25°C. Keep out of reach of children. External use only.
