Infant Formula

Indications And Clinical Uses: A nutritionally complete iron fortified infant formula for routine feeding of infants from birth if breast-feeding is not an option or if a supplement is required.

Good Start has the added benefit of being easier to tolerate than routine cow’s milk or soy based formula because the protein has been partially broken down to reduce the possibility of an allergic reaction.

Contra-Indications: Not suitable for feeding infants with severe cow’s milk allergy, with or without gastrointestinal complications where there is risk of anaphylactic shock; severe acute or chronic diarrhea with gastrointestinal damage when a special therapeutic formula would be indicated; the rare condition of galactosemia; low birth weight (less than 2 500 g).

Warnings: After using Good Start, baby’s stools may be softer and either a yellowish or dark green color, similar to those of breast-fed infants. This is quite normal.

Dosage And Administration: As determined by the individual infant’s needs for the first year of life. Consult the physician for specific feeding recommendations.

Preparation: Concentrated Liquid: Bring clean bottles, nipples, rings and preparation utensils to a full boil and cool before using. Do not use a microwave to sterilize utensils or to warm formula. In a separate container, bring water to a boil. Allow water to cool to 40°C or for approximately 20 to 30 minutes before using. Clean can top. Shake well, and open. After opening, can may be covered and stored in refrigerator to be used within 48 hours. Mix equal amounts of formula and warm water in a sterilized bottle, cap and shake well. Bottled formula may be covered and stored in refrigerator to be used within 48 hours. Formula should be at body temperature before feeding. Formula is at the right temperature if you do not feel a temperature difference when placing a drop on your own hand. Discard unused formula left in bottle after feeding.
