Magnesium Hydroxide – Simethicone Compound

Indications And Clinical Uses: Provides fast relief of heartburn, acid indigestion, and gas.

Contra-Indications: Alkalosis; hypermagnesemia; where distention may be due to partial or complete intestinal obstruction. Not recommended for severely debilitated patients or those with impaired renal function.

Manufacturers’ Warnings In Clinical States: Do not take more than 16 tablets or 80 mL during a 24-hour period. Do not take for more than 2 weeks or if symptoms recur, unless directed by a physician. Do not take if you suffer from kidney disease, except on your physician’s advice. Do not take within 2 hours of another medicine, because the effectiveness of the medicine may be altered. Antacids can interfere with the absorption of iron preparations and/or tetracyclines.

Precautions: Magnesium salts, in the presence of renal insufficiency, may cause CNS depression. Aluminum hydroxide, in the presence of low phosphorus diets, may cause phosphorus deficiency. Aluminum salts tend to cause constipation. Do not administer concomitantly with tetracycline antibiotics or iron preparations.

Symptoms And Treatment Of Overdose: Symptoms and Treatment: Symptomatic.

Dosage: Adults: 10 to 20 mL of suspension, or 2 to 4 tablets taken 4 times a day 20 to 60 minutes after meals and at bedtime or as directed by the physician. Suspension may be taken undiluted or with water. Tablets may be chewed or sucked.

Availability And Storage: Diovol Plus: Suspension: Each 5 mL of white to off-white, peppermint or tropical-fruit-flavored suspension with a milky appearance contains: aluminum hydroxide (as aluminum hydroxide compressed gel) 165 mg, magnesium hydroxide 200 mg and simethicone 25 mg.
Tablets: Each round, flat, beveled edge tablet, monogrammed DIOVOL PLUS on one side, fruit-flavored (yellow, single layer) or peppermint (2/3 white, 1/3 yellow), contains: aluminum hydroxide and magnesium carbonate co-dried gel 300 mg (equivalent to aluminum hydroxide 184 mg), magnesium hydroxide 100 mg and simethicone 25 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: calcium cyclamate, cellulose, D&C Yellow 10, FD&C Yellow 6 (mint tablets), flavors, gelatin, magnesium stearate, mannitol, sorbitol, starch (corn) and talc. Energy: 8.4 kJ (2 kcal)/tablet. Sodium:
Diovol Plus AF: Liquid: Each 5 mL of white to off-white peppermint flavored suspension with a milky appearance contains: calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide 200 mg and simethicone 25 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: alcohol, benzyl alcohol, edetate calcium disodium, flavors, glycerin, guar gum, hydrogen peroxide, polyethylene glycol, propylene glycol alginate, saccharin sodium and sorbitol. Alcohol: 1%. Energy: 7.1 kJ (1.7 kcal)/5 mL.
Tablets: Each round, flat, beveled-edge white tablet, mint flavored, monogrammed DIOVOL PLUS on one side and AF on other side contains: calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide 200 mg and simethicone 25 mg.
