Diphenylpyraline HCl – Camphor – Guaiacol

Expectorant – Antihistaminic

Indications And Clinical Uses: For the temporary relief of coughs due to colds, bronchitis, bronchial asthma.

Contra-Indications: Hypersensitivity to any of the components.

Precautions: Since the depressant effects of antihistamines are additive to those of other drugs affecting the CNS, patients should be cautioned against drinking alcoholic beverages or taking hypnotics, sedatives, psychotherapeutic agents or other drugs with CNS depressant effects during antihistaminic therapy.

Guaifenesin may cause a color inteference with certain laboratory determinations of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid and vanillylmandelic acid.

Occupational Hazards: Patients should be cautioned not to operate vehicles or hazardous machinery until their response to the drug has been determined.

Adverse Reactions: Occasional drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, blurred vision, gastrointestinal upset, and nausea may occur.

Symptoms And Treatment Of Overdose: Symptoms and Treatment: Antihistamine effects – if coma and respiratory depression are present, use intubation and artificial respiration. Do not administer stimulants. Maintain blood pressure and control convulsions with diazepam or short acting barbiturates.

Dosage And Administration: Adults: 1 adult strength suppository morning and evening. In acute cases, administer 1 or 2 suppositories 3 times daily.

Children, over 1 year: 1 suppository morning, noon and evening.

Infants, up to 3 months: 1 suppository twice daily; 3 months to 1 year: 1 suppository 2 to 4 times daily.

Availability And Storage: Adults: Each white, homogeneous suppository contains: guaiacol 600 mg (as carbonate), diphenylpyraline HCI 1.5 mg and camphor 5 mg. Boxes of 10.

Children: Each white, homogeneous suppository contains: guaiacol 200 mg (as carbonate), diphenylpyraline HCI 0.5 mg and camphor 2 mg. Boxes of 10.

Infants: Each white, homogeneous suppository contains: guaiacol 100 mg (as carbonate), diphenylpyraline HCI 0.25 mg and camphor 1 mg. Boxes of 10.

Keep in refrigerator.
