Cold Sore Therapy

Indications And Clinical Uses: Symptomatic treatment of cold sores and fever blisters. Prevention of secondary bacterial infection.

Contra-Indications: Hypersensitivity to any of the components.

Manufacturers’ Warnings In Clinical States: It is dangerous to apply any product containing menthol or camphor to the nostrils of an infant. To do so may cause difficulty in breathing and collapse.

Precautions: For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Do not use inside nose. If symptoms persist or become more severe, or if hypersensitivity or adverse reaction to the product occurs, discontinue use and consult a physician. Prolonged use may result in the overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms. If this occurs, the use of this preparation should be discontinued, and appropriate therapy instituted.

Keep out of reach of children.

Dosage And Administration: Adults and children over 12 years: Apply ointment every 3 hours to cold sore until healing is complete.

Children 6 to 12 years: Use only on the advice of a physician.

Do not use on children under 6 years.

Pregnancy and Lactation: Use only on the advice of a physician.

Availability And Storage: Each g of ointment contains: polymyxin B (as sulfate) 500 IU, tyrothricin 0.5 mg, camphor 20 mg, menthol 1 mg and benzocaine 50 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: mineral oil and white petrolatum. Tubes of 3.5 g. Store between 15 and 25°C. Protect from heat and moisture.
