Action And Clinical Pharmacology: Sennosides are a natural source complex of anthraquinone glycosides found in senna. They exert a stimulant laxative effect that increases peristalsis by direct action on the smooth muscle of the intestine. They generally produce bowel movement in 6 to 12 hours.
Indications And Clinical Uses: For the overnight relief of occasional constipation.
Precautions: Do not take for more than 1 week, without consulting your physician, as overuse or extended use may cause dependence for bowel function. Do not use when abdominal pain, nausea, fever or vomiting are present. Do not take within 2 hours of other medicines since the desired effect of the other medicine may be reduced. Do not exceed the recommended dose. Keep out of reach of children.
Pregnancy and Lactation: Do not use if you are pregnant or nursing, unless on the advice of a physician.
Dosage And Administration: Chocolated Pieces: Take once or twice daily, preferably at bedtime. Adults and children 12 years of age or over: 1 to 2 pieces. Children 6 to 12 years: 1 piece. Children 2 to 6 years: 1/2 piece. Children under 2 years: Consult a physician. Pieces should be chewed before swallowing.
Sugar Coated Pills: Take once or twice daily with a glass of water, preferably at bedtime. Adults and children 12 years of age and over: 1 to 2 pills. Children 6 to 12 years: 1 pill. Children under 6 years: Consult a physician.
Extra Strength Sugar Coated Pills: Adults: Take 1 or 2 pills once or twice daily with a glass of water, preferably at bedtime.
Availability And Storage: Chocolated Pieces: Each chocolate piece contains: sennosides USP 15 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: cocoa, hydrogenated palm kernel oil, lecithin, milk solids, sugar and vanillin. Boxes of 6, 18, 48 and 72.
Sugar Coated Pills: Each sugar coated pill contains: sennosides USP 15 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: acacia, alginic acid, calcium phosphate, carnauba wax, cellulose, iron oxide, magnesium stearate, sodium benzoate, sodium lauryl sulfate, starch, stearic acid, sucrose, talc and titanium dioxide. Blister packs, boxes of 10, 30 and 60.
Extra Strength Sugar Coated Pills: Each sugar coated pill contains: sennosides USP 25 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients: acacia, alginic acid, calcium phosphate, carnauba wax, cellulose, FD&C blue No. 1, magnesium stearate, polyvinylpyrrolidone, silicon dioxide, sodium benzoate, sodium lauryl sulfate, starch, stearic acid, sucrose, talc and titanium dioxide. Blister packs, boxes of 24 and 48.
